WHERE TO PLACE INDOOR PLANTS IN A LIVING ROOM

Put plants in the corners, not on the tables. Buy two sizes only: one knee-height beside the sofa, one shoulder-height in an empty corner.
WHY PLANTERS BEAT MORE CUSHIONS
A plant does one thing nothing else does: it breaks the right angle. Every room has four hard corners, and hard corners read as a box. One plant the height of a person makes the eye travel instead of stopping — a bigger change than any cushion or print. Scale is the whole game, though: small pots on a coffee table become clutter, and five little plants look like a shelf, not a decision.
WHAT SURVIVES CAIRO LIGHT
Ficus, rubber plant, zamioculcas and snake plant handle bright indirect light and irregular watering. A fiddle-leaf fig usually does not. Match the pot to the room's material family — matte terracotta or painted metal, never glossy plastic — and if your window can't support anything, buy one good large artificial specimen rather than five dying real ones.
